Hi, Just purchased a new battery for my 2010 MacBook running OS X 10.6.8 and it now shuts down abruptly when the battery level hits 50% with no warning. Any ideas?

        Hi Ric,

Good to hear from you! It sounds like you may have a bad battery. Did you buy an Apple-branded one? If so, return it for a new one – if not, you can probably still get a replacement from whoever you purchased it from. Batteries have cells, and it sounds like some of the cells in your battery aren’t working properly. There could be a short – but I’d recommend not using that battery any longer, especially if it isn’t an Apple-branded battery, since those power shorting issues can really wreak havoc on logic boards. 🙂

Hope this helps and best of luck,
        David P.
