iPad Stuck On The Apple Logo? Here’s The Real Fix!

Your iPad froze on the Apple logo and you’re not sure what to do. No matter what buttons you press, your iPad simply won’t turn back on. In this article, I’ll explain what to do when your iPad is stuck on the Apple logo!

Why Is My iPad Stuck On The Apple Logo?

Your iPad is stuck on the Apple logo because something went wrong during its reboot process. During the process when your iPad turns on, it has to complete simple tasks like checking its memory and turning on its processor. Then, after it turns back on, your iPad is capable of performing more complex tasks like browsing the internet and supporting iOS apps.

Most of the time, your iPad gets stuck on the Apple logo because of a software issue or problem with a third-party security software currently installed on your computer. The steps below will help you diagnose and fix the real reason why your iPad gets frozen on the Apple logo.

Did You Jailbreak Your iPad?

One of the potential negative consequences of jailbreaking your iPad is that it could begin to get stuck on the Apple logo. If you have jailbroken your iPad, skip down the DFU restore step to fix the problem.

Hard Reset Your iPad

A hard reset forces your iPad to abruptly turn off and back on, which will usually fix the problem if your iPad has frozen on the Apple logo. Press and hold the power button and the Home button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Then, let go of both buttons.

If your iPad rebooted, that’s great — but we’re not done yet! A lot of the time, a hard reset is just a temporary fix for a deeper software problem. If you find that your iPad continues to get stuck on the Apple logo, I recommend performing a DFU Restore, the second to last step in this article.

Problems With Third-Party Software

Sometimes third-party software installed on your computer can interrupt the process when you’re trying to transfer data to or update your iPad. It’s possible that your iPad got stuck on the Apple logo because that process was interrupted.

A lot of the time, the third-party software causing the problem is some sort of security software. Security software may view your iPad as some sort of threat when you connected it to your computer and opened iTunes.

If you have third-party security software installed on your computer, temporarily turn it off before trying to connect your iPad to iTunes. Check out our other article if your iPad isn’t connecting to iTunes at all. Apple has a great article on resolving these types of issues on their website as well.

Check Computer USB Port & Lightning Cable

If your computer is working just fine and no third-party app is interfering with a data transfer or update process, take a look at your computer USB port and your Lightning cable. Either one could be the reason why your iPad is getting stuck on the Apple logo when you plug it in.

First, closely inspect your computer’s USB port and check to see if anything is stuck in there. Lint, dust, and other  debris can prevent your Lightning cable from making a clean connection to the USB port. If one USB port isn’t working, try a different one on your computer.

Secondly, closely examine both ends of your Lightning cable. If you notice any discoloration or fraying, you may have to use a different cable. Try borrowing a friend’s cable if you don’t have an extra one lying around.

Put Your iPad In DFU Mode & Restore

The DFU restore is the most in-depth restore you can do on an iPad. All of the code controlling your iPad’s hardware and software gets erased and reloaded like new. Before performing a DFU restore, we recommend saving a backup so you don’t lose any of your important data after the restore is complete.

To put your iPad in DFU mode, you’ll have to plug it into a computer and open iTunes. iTunes is just a tool used to put your iPad into DFU mode, so you can use a friend’s computer if you’re having trouble with your own.

Watch our video to learn how to DFU restore your iPad!

Repairing Your iPad

If your iPad is still freezing on the Apple logo after you’ve performed a DFU restore, it’s probably time to explore your repair options. A lot of the time, issues with the logic board are the reason why your iPad gets stuck on the Apple logo.

If your iPad is protected by AppleCare+, take it into your local Apple Store and see what they can do for you. Don’t forget to schedule an appointment first!

If your iPad isn’t covered by AppleCare+, or if you just want to get it fixed immediately, we recommend Puls, an on-demand repair company. Puls will send a certified technician directly to you and they’ll repair your iPad on-the-spot (sometimes for cheaper than Apple)!

No Longer Stuck!

The best solutions is don’t buy Apple products, giving you all such costly problems. Apple is all about money company.

I try to but it just turns to the Apple logo and sits there until there is no battery.

Apple support couldn’t get my iPad out of the Apple logo also so they we did a complete restore. Plug it to a computer that has iTunes and press home home and top button at the same time and it takes to restore option.

Hi, my iPad won’t charge. The apple logo keeps on flashing. What should I do? I tried to press the power button together with the Home button and release but still it keeps on flashing.

Hi Cheska, have you tried charging your iPad using a different cable or charger? It’s possible that your Lightning cable or power source could be the cause of the problem. I’d recommend trying to charge with another cable. If that doesn’t work, try plugging into another power source. For example, if you usually charge from a standard power outlet, try plugging directly into your computer or a car charger. I hope this helps!

It sure is! On Macs running macOS Catalina 10.15 or newer, you’ll want to use Finder to put your iPad in DFU Mode.

Hi I did the update on iTunes but didn’t work and I don’t know how to back up my iPad so I can’t do the restore one but my iPads still doing the same it’s stuck on the Apple icon and then sometimes it goes on a black screen and then goes back on to the Apple icon what do I do?

Hi Faith. To back up your iPad to iTunes, connect your iPad to your computer with a Lightning cable. Then, open iTunes on your computer and click on your iPad’s icon in the top-left corner. Finally, tap Back Up Now. To find out when the backup finishes, check under the Latest Backup heading. If you see the current time and date there, the backup is finished and you should be able to keep going with these steps!

Hope this helps!

I’m sorry to hear that Ramona. If you can’t save a backup of your iPad somewhere reliable, I’d suggest going to Apple Support to find out about their repair options. That last thing you want is to accidentally erase all your data while trying a home repair. Sorry we couldn’t be of more help, thanks for reading, and best of luck!

i dont wanna do a hard reset cause it will delete everything and i have so much stuff i care about on there please how do i fix it without hard reset

I think you might be mixing up a hard reset with a DFU Restore. A hard reset temporarily halts your iPad’s processors and forces them to restart, you shouldn’t lose any data when you do that. A DFU Restore is more like a typical factory reset, which will erase all of your content and settings. Either way, it’s very helpful to regularly backup your iPad in case you do lose data from something like a DFU Restore. I’d recommend plugging your iPad into a computer and trying to back it up on iTunes or Finder before attempting any other fixes.… Read more »

If a hard reset isn’t working you may need to try a DFU restore.

Thanks, guys! I wanted to dust off my iPad 2 for my mom to be able to Zoom. But when I turned it on it was stuck on the apple, and would not turn off no matter what I did. I’m still working with it, but your DFU restore did allow me to connect it to itunes. It wants to update but if that doesn’t end up working I have the option to restore. Whatever way this turns out, I’m really grateful for your help. 🙂

my iPad goes to the white Apple screen and then says it needs to be charged. It will not charge with any lightning cord. If anything it turns on the white screen and stays there until I unplug it and goes back to black battery screen.

connect your ipad to pc with itunes, in itunes select restore. Your iPad was jailbroken right? so if you want to do jail break again, please complete the restoration first, and continue with your jailbreak. Good luck

My iPad hung on an iOS update I was doing through iTunes. Since then, I can’t get it past the apple screen, and iTunes gets stuck on ‘Waiting for iPad’ for a long, long time until an iTunes error message comes up saying that this iPad could not be updated. I’ve gone through the process of putting it into DFU mode, but it goes through the same loop again, eventually ending with an error message that the iPad could not be restored. This is a brand new iPad! I’m out of ideas of what to do. Help?
