Bitmoji Not Working On Your iPhone? Here’s The Fix!

    Categories: Apps

Bitmoji won’t work on your iPhone and you don’t know what to do. Bitmoji is an app that lets you create fun and personalized emojis, so it’s disappointing when you’re not able to send them. In this article, I’ll show you how to turn on the Bitmoji keyboard and explain what to do when Bitmoji is not working on your iPhone.

How Do I Turn On The Bitmoji Keyboard?

In order to send Bitmojis to your friends and family, we need to make sure the Bitmoji keyboard is turned on after you install the Bitmoji app. To turn on the Bitmoji keyboard, begin by opening the Settings app. Tap General -> Keyboard -> Keyboards -> Add New Keyboard.

Under Third Party Keyboards, tap Bitmoji to add Bitmoji to your list of keyboards.

Next, tap Bitmoji in your list of keyboards and turn on the switch next to Allow Full Access. You’ll know the Bitmoji keyboard is on when the switch is green!

Finally, after turning on the switch next to Allow Full Access, tap Allow when the message Allow Full Access for “Bitmoji” Keyboards? appears on the display of your iPhone. Once you have turned on the Bitmoji keyboard, return to the Messages app and see if your Bitmojis are there.

The Bitmoji Keyboard Is On, But I Can’t Find It!

Even if you have the Bitmoji keyboard turned on, it can be a little difficult to find, especially if it’s your first time using the app. To access the Bitmoji keyboard, begin by opening the app you want to use to send a Bitmoji. I’ll use the Notes app to demonstrate.

In the app you’re using to type, tap the text field to access your iPhone’s keyboard. In the lower left-hand corner of the keyboard next to the space bar, press and hold the icon that looks like a globe. A list of your keyboards should appear. Drag your finger up until you highlight the Bitmoji keyboard’s listing, then let go.

From there, tap the Bitmoji you would like to use. Your iPhone should display a message saying it copied the Bitmoji. Finally, tap the text field and tap Paste when the option pops up on the screen of your iPhone.

Your Bitmoji will appear in the text field. If you’re using a messaging app, you can send your Bitmjoji to your friends and family from there!

The Keyboard Is On, But Bitmoji Still Is Not Working! What Do I Do?

If you’ve turned on the keyboard, but Bitmoji still won’t work, your iPhone is almost certainly experiencing a software issue. The troubleshooting steps below will help you diagnose and fix the problem for good!

Close The Apps On Your iPhone

Next, try closing out the apps currently open on your iPhone. It’s possible one of those apps has crashed, causing an issue with Bitmoji.

If your iPhone has a Home button, double-click it to open the app switcher. If your iPhone doesn’t have a Home button, swipe up from the bottom to the center of the screen to open the app switcher.

To close an app, swipe it up and off the top of the screen. You’ll know the app is closed when it no longer appears in the app switcher.

Turn Your iPhone Off And Back On

Shutting off your iPhone allows all the little programs running in the background to reboot and start again. If a minor software glitch has occurred in the background of your iPhone, restarting your iPhone may fix the problem.

If you have an iPhone without Face ID, press and hold the Sleep / Wake button, which is more commonly known as the power button. Release the power button when a red power icon and the words slide to power off appear on the display of your iPhone. Swipe the red power icon from left to right to turn off your iPhone.

Wait 30–60 seconds, then press and hold the Sleep / Wake button until the Apple logo appears on the display of your iPhone to turn it back on.

If you have an iPhone with Face ID, press and hold the side button and either the volume up or volume down button simultaneously. Release both buttons when slide to power off appears on the screen. Swipe the power icon from left to right to shut down your iPhone.

After a 30–60 seconds, press and hold the side button again until the Apple logo appears. Your iPhone will turn on shortly after.

Update The Bitmoji App

Next, make sure you’ve updated to the latest version of the Bitmoji app. Developers often update their apps to fix any bugs or software glitches. If you’re using an outdated version of the app, you may experience those technical issues.

To check for and install app updates, follow these steps:

  1. Open the App Store on your iPhone.
  2. Tap your Account Icon in the top-right corner of your screen.
  3. Scroll down the page to look for a Bitmoji app update.
  4. If there’s a Bitmoji update available, tap Install, or tap Install Now at the top of the list of apps with available updates.

Delete Bitmoji and Reinstall

If you’re still having trouble getting the Bitmoji app to work properly, try deleting the app and reinstalling it. Deleting and reinstalling an app has the potential to erase and corrupted files and give it a fresh start.

To delete Bitmoji, press and hold on its app icon. Once the quick action menu appears, tap Remove App, then Delete App. Finally, tap Delete when the confirmation pop-up appears.

After deleting Bitmoji, open the App Store and tap the Search tab in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. Search for Bitmoji, then tap the installation button to its right.

Update To The Latest Version Of iOS

If you have the most up to date version of the Bitmoji app, but it’s still not working on your iPhone, check to see if an iOS update is available. Sometimes, a major iOS update can cause specific apps to malfunction. In fact, when Apple released iOS 10, the Bitmoji keyboard stopped working for many iPhone users after they installed the update.

To check if an iOS update is available, open the Settings app and tap General -> Software Update. If a iOS update is available, tap Download and Install at the bottom of the Software Update menu. You’ll be prompted to enter your iPhone passcode before your iPhone downloads and installs the latest iOS update.

After the iOS update downloads, tap Install if your iPhone doesn’t update itself automatically. Make sure your iPhone is plugged into a power source or has at least 50% battery life, otherwise your iPhone won’t be able to install the iOS update. After your iPhone installs the update, your iPhone will reboot.

    • Hi Chithuli, I'm sorry to hear that this issue continues to persist for you! However, you've already done a lot of troubleshooting so you're well on your way to getting this problem resolved!

This sounds like it could be an issue on Bitmoji's end, rather than your iPhone's. Here's a link to Bitmoji's support page, where they have a number of resources for Bitmoji users encountering issues with their app: https://support.bitmoji.com/hc/en-us

I'd suggest exploring their Bitmoji On Snapchat tab, or reaching out to Bitmoji team directly by selecting the Contact Bitmoji Support button. Thank you for reading and I hope this helps!

  • I tried all steps even I uninstalled the sanpchat as well as bitmoji app
but unfortunately it still not working so disappointed

    • Try going to Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> Keyboards -> Add New Keyboard, and select Bitmoji. If that doesn't work, check out our article about how to fix Bitmoji on Snapchat — there are a few Snapchat-specific steps that may help you out.

  • hi, I just recently got the bitmoji app and every time I try to log in it says connection error but I’m connected to WiFi. I updated my phone to IOS14, I’ve restarted my phone many times and I uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I really don’t know what to do at this point.

    • Unfortunately some apps just aren't very 'paste' friendly when it comes to rich content like Bitmoji images and gifs. There might be some other issue going on but I suspect that Facebook will just have to get better support for Bitmoji pasting.

  • My husband's bitmoji is showing up as my name on my friend's phone? She doesn't even have his phone number? Help please.

  • As of Oct 31 the app will not connect to contacts no matter what I do. Logged in and out, deleted the app, restarted the phone, linked and unlinked contacts, and they still will not show up, as if not a single one of my contacts has bitmoji. It was totally fine until today and even this morning when I was sending friendmojis with no trouble, and now the app is ruined.

    • Bitmoji requires an iPhone running iOS 10 or newer, so your iPhone is too old unfortunately

  • still not working; about to shut phone down and reboot.

bitmoji updated 3 days ago and it’s not not working anywhere, the keybo
ard tries to load and keeps crashing, then loading, then crashing...

  • Figured it out! You can't use the Bitmoji symbol just below the text box for entering your message. Instead you have to specifically use the Bitmoji keyboard! Worked!

  • Try this. Go to text message then text message box. Then at the bottom of the text message box you will see three dots (epsilon). Click on that and then do edit and go to bitemoji Then turn it on

  • I have gone through your above suggestions and my Bitmoji is still not working! While it appears in my text message screen, I continue to receive text error messages, stating Not Delivered and Message Failed to Send ~ there are no updates and the app was working on 2/14/18.

  • Bitmoji works in iMessages but not for contacts that arent iPhone users it keeps saying message undeliverable. I can send them to my iPhone contacts. Help this just started. • Please help me. I have bitmoji and love it, but it is not accepting any of my contacts. It used to, but suddenly It says contact will not be used with a yes or no under it and no other choices. I really appreciate some assistance. Thank you very much.

  • When that happened to me, I checked the contact I was trying to send to and found it was selecting an old telephone number. Look up the contact on the device that you are using, and check their communication details
